Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi Turkish Coffee is the house-roasted and finely ground coffee from Istanbul's oldest established coffeehouse, which has been grinding and selling its signature blend from the Egyptian Bazaar (Mısır Çarşısı) in Eminönü since 1871 — a fine-powder roast made for the džezva and the unhurried small cup. Mehmet Efendi established his coffee house at a time when Istanbul was still the epicenter of Ottoman coffee culture, and his family has kept the same spice-bazaar address for over 150 years, making it one of the most recognizable coffee brands in Turkey and across the Middle Eastern and Balkan diaspora. Turkish coffee brewed from this blend is a ritual rather than a beverage: made slowly in the džezva over low heat, poured gently over the foam without stirring, and consumed small and thick alongside a glass of cold water. Brew in a džezva over gentle heat, do not stir after pouring, and serve in small porcelain cups with cold water and a piece of lokum.
