Badel Orahovac — a Croatian green walnut liqueur from Badel 1862, dark amber and nutty-bitter. Green walnuts macerated in rakija — a homestead tradition bottled at industrial scale by Croatia's heritage distillery.
Heritage: Orahovac (from orah — walnut) is one of Croatia's distinctive homestead liqueurs, traditionally made by harvesting unripe green walnuts in early summer, then macerating them in grape rakija with sugar and spices for months. Badel 1862, founded in Zagreb in 1862, bottles the commercial expression — concentrated, bittersweet, deeply colored.
Tasting notes: Dark mahogany. Pronounced walnut and oxidized-nut nose with hints of clove and cinnamon. Bittersweet palate with marzipan and bitter-walnut depth; long savory finish.
Pairing: Serve chilled neat as a digestif in a small cordial glass. Excellent with dark chocolate, walnut torte, aged hard cheese, or alongside Turkish coffee.
